Set in the Scottish Borders, Thirlestane Castle has its origins in the 13th century. The Border Country Life Trust was created in 1982 and established a museum in the south wing of the Castle. At this time, one year prior to the formation of Thirlestane Castle Trust, the museum was an entirely independent entity which just happened to be housed within the Castle
Lauder is on the A68 28 miles south of Edinburgh. The Eagle Gates are off the A68 just south of the town.
