This is a tranquil, open meadowland site surrounded by woodland where you can walk freely, watch birds and deer and enjoy a profusion of wild flowers. Stamford is the nearest town, one of the most perfect stone towns in England with a long history and many important medieval buildings; BBCs Middlemarch was filmed here. You can cruise on the Rutland Belle or choose to walk along the 27 Miles of Rutland Water shoreline; there are cycling paths and forest walks from the site entrance. With Peterborough and the Fens in easy reach, there are plenty of interesting visits in this out of the way part of England. For garden lovers, dont forget to visit Barnsdale Gardens at Oakham, Geoff Hamiltons horticultural legacy which he left for us all to enjoy.
