"Linger between the Peak District and the Potteries"
Our Site at Leek is in the centre of the Staffordshire Moorlands. The Peak District National Park stretches out to the north and east, the Potteries to the south and west. This Site is the perfect place to stay for walking or exploring the industrial heart of the area.
Situated near to the head of the River Churnet in North Staffordshire and on the southern uplands of the Pennines, the town of Leek has many interesting buildings and a new, pedestrianised shopping centre. To the north you will find The Roaches, a popular area with walkers and climbers. At Flash you can go riding and trekking by the hour, day or longer. The towns of the Potteries have many museums and factory shops. You may like to try the Wedgwood Story at Barlaston, Spode at Stoke-on-Trent and Royal Doulton at Burslem. Gladstone Working Pottery Museum comes highly recommended. The family can easily spend a day role-playing characters, making bone China flowers and investigating the story of the toilet. Canal planner James Brindley built the water mill at Leek. It has been restored to working condition and includes an exhibition about Brindley’s life. There are sailing and fishing facilities at Rudyard Lake. A miniature gauge railway runs along the 200-year-old lake. Just to the north of the site is Tittesworth reservoir which supplies water to the people of Stoke-on-Trent. There is an area for visitors, with an adventure playground, café, barbecue area, Visitors Centre and footpaths all the way round the reservoir. Alton Towers is a theme park for all ages. See one of the shows or be terrified by the rides. Cheddleton Flint Mill is a fine example of a water mill that ground flint for the pottery industry. The site has two water mills, a small museum, a period cottage, traditional narrow-boat and many other exhibits. From Cheddleton, three miles south of Leek, you can take a steam train on the Churnet Valley Railway and a boat trip along the canal. There are four supermarkets in a two-mile radius of the Site.
